1999 Abstract:
Recently opened great ape exhibits in Los Angles, Philadelphia and the Bronx are designed to improve the way people and apes relate to each other. This paper defines “Affiliative Design” and suggests ways to increase affiliation within great ape groups, and between great apes, caregivers and zoo guests.
