Travel Poetry & Sketches

Quiet moments of observation gathered across continents — where drawing, landscape, and reflection meet.

Introduction

During decades of travel for planning and design work, there were moments between meetings, site visits, and collaborations when I could sit quietly and observe.

Sometimes that meant sketching a landscape.

Sometimes wildlife.

Sometimes simply recording the feel of a place.

Out of these moments emerged what I call “sketch poems” — loose reflections in image and verse. They are not academic poetry. They are impressions. They are responses to place, to solitude, to movement across cultures and ecosystems.

This collection includes thirty-five sketch poems drawn from travels in many parts of the world.

About the Work

These sketches were often made quickly — on location, in changing light, sometimes under physical or political uncertainty. They capture more than scenery.

They attempt to record relationship:

  • Between land and sky
  • Between people and place
  • Between memory and present experience
  • Between design intention and natural systems

The poems emerged spontaneously — words following lines on paper.
Together, they form a quieter companion to the professional and memoir sections of this site.

Closing Reflection

Travel changes perspective. Sketching slows it down.

If these drawings and words invite you to pause, observe more carefully, or reconnect with a landscape you know, then they have served their purpose.
