1984 Abstract:
A new generation of zoo great ape exhibits is described based upon wild ape interaction with their natural habitats and wild conspecific species. Illustrative plans for idealized great ape exhibits are shown based upon these environmental and behavioural concepts.

Historical Note: Not since Robert Garner’s 1914 statement that zoo gorillas should have “their own jungle” has there been a clearer call to make nature the model in zoo great ape facilities.
