Zoo Management

Zoo Management

21st Century zoos and aquariums cannot be managed with 19th Century management systems. Top-down patriarchal hierarchies are being replaced by more horizontally structured and cross-connected interdisciplinary teams and decisions are more often based upon science and consensus. Professional growth, personal responsibility and gender equity are growing expectations. Facility planning, design and operation are becoming an interdisciplinary, multicultural, team-building process. Yet each institution must find its own pathway to success.
